About Me

Hi there! My name is Bryan Castro. I'm a regular guy who's trying to improve my fitness. I am a businessman as well as a family man, and for a long time, physical fitness has been low on my priorities. However, as I just turned 40 in 2015, I started to realize that fitness and health are important. Besides longevity, fitness gives me the energy to fulfill my responsibilities to my family and to my clients.

Growing up, I always enjoyed playing sports like basketball (although I wasn't very good). I rowed in high school, which exposed me to a great sport as well as some weightlifting and calisthenics. In college, I discovered martial arts, which I love and practice as much as I can even now. I have always been fairly active because of martial arts, but didn't really take working out too seriously for very long periods of time. Instead, I had binges of exercise that might last two or three months, but then I'd stop for several months before getting motivated again.

In 2013, I tore my ACL and meniscus, which sidelined me for about a year after surgery. Although I slowly started working in calisthenics and some strength work, things like running and lower body heavy lifting scared me. Now, two years later, I still get some pain in my knee. However, with proper warming-up, I feel much more confident doing leg work.

About this Blog

I'll be tracking my workouts through this blog. Hopefully, we'll see some progress from week to week and month to month. Besides my workouts, I enjoy writing about my thoughts about fitness especially the psychological and mental connection. I will also share websites, books, and videos that I find useful in my quest for health and fitness.

I am approaching my current effort to improve myself with humility. I thank my friends who have supported me along the way and I invite you to join me on this journey.
